WHY CLARION CALL 'BACK TO VEDAS' ?

WHY CLARION CALL 'BACK TO VEDAS'
  • Some of the distinguishing features of the Vedic teachings on account of which, their glory is not only sung by the seers, sages and philosophers of India, but many impartial Western scholars as well, are :
  • The concept of ‘Dharma ‘as enshrined in the Veda ,teaches harmony between knowledge and action, considering the combination of both, essential for the attainment of emancipation। vidyam cavidyam ca yastad vedo-bhayagm saha. avidyaya mrytyum tirtva vidyaya-mrtamasnute. (Yv.40-14) विद्याम काविद्यम का यस्ताद वेदों-भायाग्म सहा

अविद्यया म्र्य्त्युम तीर्त्वा विद्यया-म्र्तामास्नुते। (यव.४०-१४)

‘He who simultaneously knoweth well these two, knowledge and Action, overcoming deathbyaction, by knowledge gaineth salvation.'

  • It advocates harmony between renunciation and enjoyment, enjoining upon the middle path expressed in themost unambiguous terms like:

‘तेना त्यक्तेन भुंजीथा माँ ग्रिधा कस्य स्विद धनं’(यजुर: ४०-१) i. e. enjoy this world with the स्पिरिट ऑफ़ without being greedy. After all, whose wealth is all this, except that of God. The Vedas advocate reconciliation of claims between Individualism and those of collectivism, laying stress on the combination of both individual all round progress and the social collective welfare of all as the right path, as stated in the Yajurveda (Yajur 40-11). sambhutim ca vinasam ca yastad vedo-bhayagm saha; vinasena mrtyurm tirtva sambhutya-‘mrtam-asnute.(Isa Up.14) · The Vedas lay stress upon harmony between faith and reason, by enjoining upon us the cultivation of both, praying for the development of both and by conducting ourselves in such a way that both these faculties may go hand in hand: ॐ agnaye samidhamaharsh brahtye jatvedase,

sa me sradham ca medham ca jatveda prayacchtu (Atharvaveda 19-64)।

Here we pray to the Omnipresent and Omnipotent God to endow us with Faith and Pure Reason at the same time. Sraddha here is the power of grasping and upholding the truth. The Vedas assert: ‘yastu sarvani bhutani atmanye-vanupasyati, sarva-bhutesu catmanam tato na vju-gupsate’.(Rv. 40-6). ‘He who constantly sees everywhere all existence in the Self and the Self in all beings and forms, thereafter feels no hatred for anything’ Isavasya Upanisad-6). Last, but not the least, in The Vedas Religion and Science are properly harmonized. The Veda is the origin not only of religion, morality, ethics, but also of sciences. Even some impartial Western Scholars (like W.D. Brown, Savant Jacolliot (French), Mrs. Wheeler Willox (American), Max Mueller (German), etc.) have expressed this distinguishing feature of the Vedas. Of course, there are numerous Indian scholars and scientists, who have extensively commented on the presence of scientific phenomenon in the Vedas: for example: Pt. Saatya Vrat Samashramtm, M.R.A.S., Shri N. B.Pavagi(Vedic Fathers of Geology), Dr. V.G.Rele(Vedic Gods as figures of Biology), Shri Narayan Gowda(Maths Theorems and scientific Experiments),Jagadguru Shankracharya (ancient Indian Vedic Maths), etc. Atharva Veda is considered a gold mine for scientific phenomenon.

ETHICAL CONCEPTS OF VEDAS God not only created the universe according to His divine art, but also made the creation purposeful. He gave to man, the highest evolved being in His creation, the high standards of ethics. God Himself is an embodiment of ethical ideals and all noble virtues. Of course, He is an Infinite Unity, whilst the souls are infinitesimal unities in all positive parameters. Ethics is not necessarily a result of social evolution or of social necessity. The ethical ideals emanate with all their purposefulness from the divine nature of the Self itself, and in case of man, they have reached a sort of climax.
